CHARLOTTE

Chimo and I took a road trip today up to Charlotte. We visited the Museum of the New South. I thought the permanent exhibit was pretty good, especially the recreations. I've seen better, but it wasn't bad. Was disappointed in the special exhibits. . . Text rich and artifact poor. Then we walked through the city, with Chimo gawking at the tall buildings. There was a cosplay convention going on, and some of the people were fun to look at. Then we checked out one floor of the Mint Museum of art. A really interesting and troubling collection of photographs by Mexican artists. Many good paintings. Saw a Warhol, Ansel Adams, Rockwell, and many others. Didn't like most of the modern stuff, especially the abstract. Walked back to the car. Freaking $21 for parking. Cost more than our dinner. The we attended a smooth jazz concert at the really excellent Freedom Park. We had a great time.

BOOTSY

Ever since that summer 1977 while helping a DJ at The Governor's Club in Baltimore, when he played MOTHERSHIP CONNECTION, I have kept Funk in a special part of my heart. Have never seen a live performance by any of the P-Funk permutations, but have much of the music. Tonight, courtesy of Richland County Public Library, Bootzilla, Bootsy Collins, came for a visit and chatted a little about his life. We would have gladly listened for several more hours. The place was packed. But I managed to get a seat close. The after part was loud music and dancing folk, as people sought pictures and autographs. It was fun.

WATEREE

Chimo and I took Ginger to Wateree State Park. She was definitely not into the water, but she turned out to be an amazingly strong swimmer. After enjoying ourselves, we decided to check out some local towns, then drove up to Rock Hill, where we had lunch. Quiet but pretty town.

FIREFLIES NIGHT

Chimo and I attended our first Fireflies baseball game of the season. I've been far more concerned with other things, including following the Gamecocks into the Super Regionals, but had an empty night and with school over for summer, we took advantage. Four rows back right behind home plate. We lost, but a fun night anyway.
