"Your stories have yet to be fully told, and I view your help as an issue of historical significance," it said. "In 10 years, there have been no major, mainstream books on Columbine. This will be the first, and it may be the only one." The letter came not from Mr. Cullen but from Jeff Kass, whose Columbine: A True Crime Story, published by the small Ghost Road Press, preceded Columbine by a couple of weeks.

"Mr. Kass, whose tough account is made even sadder by the demise of The Rocky Mountain News in which his Columbine coverage appeared, has also delivered an intensive Columbine overview. Some of the issues he raises and information he digs up go unnoticed by Mr. Cullen." --Janet Maslin, New York Times

"A decade after the most dramatic school massacre in American history, Jeff Kass applies his considerable reporting talents to exploring the mystery of how two teens could have planned and carried out such gruesome acts without their own family and best friends knowing about it. Actually, there were important clues, but they were missed or downgraded both by those who knew the boys best and by public officials who came in contact with them. An engrossing and cautionary tale for everyone who cares about how to prevent kids from going bad." -------Ted Gest, President, Criminal Justice Journalistsgmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14094059824216640956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3752881919977475959.post-52664056722532433712009-11-28T21:59:48.788-05:002009-11-28T21:59:48.788-05:00I too have read "Columbine" by Dave Cull...I too have read "Columbine" by Dave Cullen and found it to be very well written. I might have blithely gone along with what Cullen writes about Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, how (in his opinion) what happened at Columbine wasn't a result of the boys enduring terrible harassment and bullying were it not for the fact that I've read another book (and reviews and statements by people) that flatly contradicts that.

The book is Brooks Brown's "No Easy Answers: The Truth Behind Death At Columbine". Brown was a friend and schoolmate of both Harris and Klebold and also a personal witness to the extremely harsh treatment that both boys received at Columbine. Brown also states in a British documentary titled "The Columbine Killers" (you can view it at YouTube) that Harris and Klebold were considered the lowest in the school. Not just in their senior class but the entire school. They got treated worse than almost anyone there. So for Cullen to dismiss the bullying aspect as a reason why Columbine happened I find rather disturbing.

Brown's father, Randy Brown, was troubled by that as well and writes about it in his own personal review of the book "Columbine" at Amazon. You should take a look at Randy Brown's review there (you can find it under the 1 star reviews). Mr. Brown is quite upset at the book and with Mr. Cullen too. So much so that he all but calls "Columbine" a work of fiction. Strong stuff.

Also troubling is Cullen's belief that Brenda Parker was telling the truth when she said that she was sexually involved with Eric Harris on a couple of occasions. Parker has since been discredited by many and in fact admitted to lying about that and a number of other matters related to Columbine. It's errors like this that detract from what could have been a great book. I can only hope that people who read "Columbine" don't stop there. Read other books on the subject, other people's comments and reviews, and don't think that "Columbine" by Dave Cullen is the one and only true account of what happened.Lisanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3752881919977475959.post-89989391191311576972009-11-28T01:45:51.630-05:002009-11-28T01:45:51.630-05:00Thank you for sparing me the waste of my time in r...Thank you for sparing me the waste of my time in reading Cullen's book. Anyone who can look at the data and say that Eric did not just snap does not have a grasp on reality. Even Michael Moore, after reading my book on the antidepressants that pushed Eric over the edge, went public in a movie we did together called "The Drugging of Our Children" to say it is clear that the reason Columbine happened was the drugs. You should still be able to find the movie online. It was done by Gary Null.

Why at the 10 year mark are the drug companies working SO HARD to get society to look somewhere other than the drugs? When you add up what all I know about what is currently going on and has gone on behind the sceens this REEKS of coverup!! Keep watching because this battle for truth is NOT over!

Dr. Ann Blake-Tracy, Executive Director,
International Coalition for Drug Awareness
www.drugawareness.org & www.ssristories.comDrAnnBlakeTracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11891294734485891942noreply@blogger.com
