A 1939 postcard picture of my great great grandfather, Walter LeRoy Tidd. There must be some good Tidd gene as far as aging goes, because to me the Tidd men don't often look their age. Just saying. :)

WALTER MARTI GRAS MYSTERY

According to the notes on the back, this is a 1946 picture of my great grandfather Walter Tidd at Marti Gras in New Orleans, but. . .who is the woman labeled as his girlfriend, Thelma. Girlfriend??? Did he divorce Florence? I have never heard that. So what gives?

WALTER & FLORENCE

My great grandfather and grandmother on my father's father's side, were Walter LeRoy Tidd and his wife Florence. This shot is from probably early in their marriage, 1920-1921. I don't know where the picture was taken, but that shed behind them shows up in many pictures, so it is likely a family property.

This picture was identified as around 1921, but he seems a tad older. Not sure about the curl on his forehead, if it is a fashion thing or an injury, or just something wrong with the film. The location is identified as Pennington, New Jersey, which is in Mercer County, dead center practically in the state and on the border with Pennsylvania. It apparently is still somewhat rural.

Hard to date the following two shots of Walter, one with his daughter Janet. Probably 1921-1922. in most pictures I have seen of him, he looks dapper and well-turned out.

MILTON HAROLD TIDD

Milton Harold Tidd (27 April 1890 - 19 November 1918) was the elder brother of Walter LeRoy Tidd (my great great grandfather). This undated picture most likely comes from about 1894, making Walter about 2 and Milton 4. Their younger brother Ken didn't arrive until 1900. Milton sure sported long, shiny hair.

Although undated, this photograph probably from around 1908-1910.

This somewhat mysterious photo reported shows Milton holding the as-yet-identified "Dorothy," sometime around 1915 to 1917. Milton sems to have been a rather dapper fellow. Milton died at the close of World War I.

WALTER TIDD

Great grandfather Walter LeRoy Tidd (5 April 1892-3 January 1948) [other sources have him listed as 1895-1947], husband of Florence. His father was Milton Tidd (14 September 1855 - 16 November 1906) and his mother was Anna Wiesling Hankinson Tidd (b. 30 March 1862). Milton appears to have come from Courtland County, New York, while Anna was from Trenton. Walter had two brothers: Kenneth Struble Tidd (29 May 1900 - 27 May 1990) and Milton Harold Tidd (27 April 1890 - 19 November 1918). Great uncle Ken was apparently the first of our Tidds to actively pursue some genealogy; his wife was Edith Woodhouse Knapp Tidd, who died in 1978, and who I vaguely remember having met. They are buried in First Presbyterian Church of Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, Mercer County, New Jersey. Ken was a Sons of the American Revolution, although he linked his membership to a Private Abraham Cook.

FLORENCE TIDD

This lovely lady is my paternal great grandmother, Florence May Leedom Tidd, who married Walter LeRoy Tidd (5 April 1892-3 January 1948). In addition to having my grandfather, Frank Lasher Tidd, she bore three daughters: Janet May Tidd (b. 3 March 1918), Betty Marie Tidd (b. 24 November 1924), and Doris Ruth Tidd (b. 21 October 1929).
